Podcast repurposing

A podcast episode stops working the day it drops unless something carries it into feeds where people already are. The raw material is rarely the constraint: a substantive hour-long conversation usually holds three to five ideas that stand on their own. The constraint is the hours it takes to find them, cut them, and reframe a wide two-person shot into something that fills a phone screen.

What this topic covers

01

What makes a moment work cold

A clip is watched by someone with no context from the rest of the episode. It needs a hook, enough setup to follow the idea, and a payoff — all inside itself. Moments that depend on ten minutes of prior conversation do not survive the transfer.

02

The two-shot framing problem

Most podcast setups record wide with both people in frame. A centre crop to 9:16 cuts both of them in half, so the reframe has to follow whoever is speaking rather than lock to the middle of the original composition.

03

How many clips per episode

Three to five strong clips is a realistic target for an hour. Publishing a few good moments consistently beats publishing every extractable one — volume without selection trains an audience to scroll past you.

04

Sequencing across the week

Many shows lead with one clip at or just before release to drive listens, then spread the rest across the gap until the next episode, so the show stays visible between releases.

Put this into practice with Podcast clip maker or For podcasters .
