How does a silence remover work?
It detects stretches of audio below a speech threshold and shortens or removes them. Reelsmith goes a step further by aligning the cuts to the transcript, so the edit follows sentence boundaries instead of raw amplitude.
Should I remove every filler word?
No. Some fillers carry hesitation or emphasis that makes a speaker sound human. Remove the ones that slow the point down, keep the ones that are part of the delivery — and review the transcript rather than accepting every suggestion.
Will the cuts be visible?
Jump cuts are inherent in removing time from a single-camera take. They are normal in short-form and largely invisible when captions are on; on a longer piece, review the cut points where the speaker moves.
Does it work on podcasts with two speakers?
Yes. Overlapping speech is where automatic removal is least reliable, so review those sections. Long gaps between a question and its answer are usually the biggest win.
